If I do die on the Nuzlocke, I will be putting future attempts into this thread as I fully expect to die at multiple points and with the RNG nature that Pokémon has as a series, every attempt will be different with the Pokémon I have as well as the battles that I go into with some attempts possibly being more challenging due to the Pokémon I have at my disposal and vice versa. She can definitely write things out better than I can but I am going to try my best to make this as informative as I can.ĭuring this first nuzlocke run of this game, I will be playing Radical Red without any custom options because I believe that this is a hard enough game as it is without any of the other options that are included. I have to admit this is my first time playing a Kanto version in which there is an actual change to the story so it should be fun to see how different it is in comparison to Sheridan's playthrough of Fire Red which you can find here if you have not read it already. Hello and welcome to the introductory episode of Radical Red which has us star in the Kanto Region where we shall be going against our rival Alex Costa to be the best there ever was. Now that we are done with the rules, you have the opportunity to choose my starter Pokémon with name as well as the name of the Rival. The player must play on "Set" battle mode which adds the element of surprise, "Switch" allows you to see the next incoming Pokémon and gives you a tactical advantage. If your Pokémon's level exceeds the highest level of the next Gym leader or Elite Four member, then it cannot be used in battle. The player cannot use any healing or stat-boosting items in battle, though held items are okay such as Leftovers. Gift Pokémon can also be considered as your encounter but this is dependent on what the "Encounter Location" data says. This rule is ignored for any Static Encounters(Pokémon you get as a result of an in-game event) or a Shiny Pokemon.

If the first encounter in the area is a double battle, you are free to choose whichever Pokemon you like. If the first wild Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances and you have to forfeit that encounter.

The player may only catch the first wild Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If you end up in a situation where your encounters have left you without a Pokemon that can use a HM for game progression, you are allowed to use that in your party for that purpose only.

The Hardcore Nuzlocke rules are as follows:Īny Pokémon that faints is considered dead and must be released/put in the Pokémon Storage System for the rest of the run. When I write the first part, I will go into details about the different difficulty modes and what they add to the overall game experience. The key difference between this and the last Nuzlocke that I attempted is that I will be playing this under Hardcore rules as I feel one way to improve my ability in Nuzlocking Pokémon games would be to put as many restrictions upon as possible with hope that when I play nuzlockes after this, the experience will make it easier for me to play. It is essentially Fire Red with updated mechanics, story and Pokémon available go up to Generation 8. I'm not sure how wise I am doing this, but I am choosing to play a very hard game called Pokémon Radical Red which is known for it's difficulty evident by the fact ShadyPenguinn a Pokémon Streamer took 31 attempts before being able to beat the Champion.

But with the time that I've had away watching other people such as Sheridan and Alex beginning their own nuzlockes as well as playing an enhanced version of Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness on my Twitch, that urge to start a Nuzlocke has come back. I admit that it has been a very long time since I've done a Pokémon Nuzlocke on the forums with my last completed attempt being in Renegade Platinum ending at the demise of the 3rd Gym Leader.
